Hi everybody, this is my first post in here. I ' m having trouble with the export to dwg procedure. I understand that

the smooth export relies on the correct assignment of categories/subgategories to the objects in a project. So my

question is: when I import a complex family I have created (containing many subcategories) is there a way to also

import the subcategories of the family into the project, so I can map them in my conversion setup ?

The sub categories import when you load a family..... didn't you try it?

You need to experiment in Revit in order to learn it.

Thanks for the feedback. You 're right I have much to learn, because I just started to use it, so excuse my ignorance.

For anybody interested, the answer is that you have to set the imported family as "shared" in the family properties.

Sorry, but you are incorrect. Setting the family to shared is not a requirement.

If you have created sub-categories in a family ... for instance "very light" line sub category in a detail family... then when you bring that family into the project, this subcategory will now be available for control in your VG settings.  This is also true for model elements ... for instance "hardware" as a subcategory for door hardware, model elements.

Perhaps you are really talking about parameters.  In order for parameters to be exported, they must be a shared parameter.

Or are you asking about nested families?  In order to quantify, export, schedule or control nested families at the project level, the nested family has to be set to "shared".
