Hey all,

I have been tasked with creating a reference title block that will populate the callout when dropped in the correct grid.

Example:

Detail A3 on sheet A5.01. When the detail view is dropped onto the detail sheet in grid A-3, the callout would name itself A3 with the correct sheet number. When a detail is dropped in grid D-4, the detail would name itself D4.

Is this possible?

default callout tags already name themselves by the sheet they're placed on.  However, they number themselves based on sequence in which you place them on the sheet, so you'll need to reorganize and renumber the details manually, in that case.

This would only be possible through an API addin...  I'm unsure if there is anything that currently does this.  To be competely automated it would need to identify when a user adds a view to a sheet and based on the x,y location of the view update the detail number.  Failing being automated it would simply be a button on the ribbon that you ran after placing a view on the sheet to update the detail number.
