I am a new user and need to make a topo-surface and then a building pad so I can start my model.. I have no idea how to do this. I try doing topo with the adding new points tool because I don't anything to import in. Can I do this? It never looks right and it never is visible when i click on my ground floor plan. Also, how can I do a basement level with the building pad, the basement is where i need to start from, and obviously that is below ground. I tried the help menu, but I am just not getting it!

Try the tutorials. They deal with this. The pad simply cuts the topography no matter what height you have it.
