Does anyone know if it possible to add gutters/fascias etc to an in-place component? I thought I could create a complex roof shape using an inplace sweep in the ROOF family and that would allow me to treat the object as if it was in fact a roof, turns out you cant. Any ideas?

Not sure what you mean.  If you create an in-place element in the roof category, it will be controlled as a roof element in VG.  What do you want it to do?

I want to add gutters and fascias to the 'roof' that I created as an inplace component under the roof category. It doesnt seem to recognise the faces/lines of the roof as it would for a traditionally modelled roof?

So, add the gutter and facia as in-place families, using the same profile as the normal tool and picking the edge of your in-place roof.
