how do you place door on the correct elevation when creating a split level home

just go to an elevation view and put the door anywhere you want it.. is that what you want to know?

For split level buildings, you really need both levels as levels. Then simply host your door on the correct level. You should do the same with your rooms - walls - windows. Anything that is level related or reports its location by level.
Although you may show both levels in one plan, I suggest you have a working plan for each level. Then when you place objects, simply work in the correct level plan view.
