I have a below grade parking structure and I would like to see the earth pattern behind my retaining walls. I see the earth pattern when taking sections but dont see it ever in plan even though I'm well underground. I've checked visibility settings and Site-Earth material but no luck. What should I enable to be able to see the earth in plan?

Your earth poche depth may not be set deep enough.  Massing & site tab, model site pull-down / elevation of poche base.

Thanks for the reply. I have my depth set at -40' and the level i showed you is at -10' below grade so it should be showing up. I'm going to keep messing with it. If I fix it ill post the fix.

Sorry, I miss-read your question.  I don't believe teh earth will show up in plan.  You will have to add a filled region.

The RAC Basic Sample Project that Revit provides shows the earth cut pattern in plan like I want but it does not seem to work when I do it.

There's a specific 'Site Setting' for the 'Material' of the 'Toposurface' in Section that overrides the regular material of the toposurface.

That's your huckleberry.

Get's me every time.

It works for 3D, Section and Plan views.

See image.

Thanks for the reply and screenshots. I have tried that and have tried overriding all sorts of settings such as visibility settings, level of detail, view range, custom material, elevation of poche base, etc, but have no luck. From what I have seen when I analyse Revit's sample file is that it looks like some of the topo must be above the cut plane and some must be below it. If all of the topo is being cut then the hatch goes away. This happens to the sample file too if you were to make a level that is totally underground.I have attached a simplified version of the topo I'm working on. Its part of a large project that has a subterranean parking garage. If you look at level Basement_02 you will see that there is no earth hatch behind the retaining walls. The file format is Revit version 2012. Perhaps you can see what I'm missing to make it show.

although a 4 year gap to your question, but i found no answer for this on other forums.

I think the issue is the way the toposurface is built, that if the top of the toposurface is a certain distance above the cut line, it will not show the poche no matter how deep you set it.

A solution arround this is to edit the toposurface in such away that you create a topopoint in the corner of the project out of your projects limits and drop that topopoint below the level you want to cut. - TADA! your poche will appear in those deep below ground levels!

Good Luck

Yoel
