I am trying to create in-place massings of buildings surrounding my site, so I sketched a profile and extruded it as a solid, and now I am trying to place voids on top to detail the shape of the building.  The problem is, I cannot align the voids...the void is slightly off, so there is a long, thin piece sticking up in space.  When I highlight the void (using 3d view) and try to use the align tool, the void disappears and I cannot reselect it while still in the tool.  Any ideas?

The void will not be visible when it is cutting an object, but if you use the align tool on the edge where the void is it should adjust the void (it look like you are using the tool on the extrusion, but you aren't). You can also grab the void and drag the grips, they should snap to parallel faces. Finally, you can use the uncut tool (if the void isn't cutting anything you can see it while it's not selected), use the align too on it, the recut.
