In your stair sketch, edit the landing lines.  You can fillet them with a radius or add a half circle instead.

BTW - You can see how to do this by looking in your HELP.

I never use the automatic stair tool.  I find it extremely clunky, I draw all of my strairs with boundary and riser lines.   you'll find it's extremely flexible this way!
