I was wondering if anybody could help me with something I am trying to achieve within a door family.

I am curious to know if I am able to link a part of the door (for example, a door guard) to a part in the element properties for that family, to be able to turn it on and off.

Reason being, we are using doors which are the same apart from whether they have a door guard or not.

And instead of creating various families, we'd like to be able to control this part of the family via the element properties.

Similar to how you would change the width of a door via the element properties by typing in the value of the particular width you would like, except use the "On/Off" control to manipulate this.

If this is possible, would it also apply to a viewing panel in the door? As in, link this part of the family to a part in the element properties to turn on and off.

I'd be greatly apprciative if anyone had any helpful information on this query.

click on the element you want to control, under its properties, click on the little button beside 'Visibility'. This open a parameter dialogue box. Then click on'add parameter' and create a new one called "guard visibility". Now you can turn it on and off as you please.
