I wish to have the same naming convention on detail plans such as Section Detail for all on one sheet. However Revit will not let me name two details the same. Is there a way to override this.

Sure it does.....
Under view properties, you will see two settings:
If title on sheet is not filled in, Revit will use the view name. For obvious reasons, every view needs a unique name in the browser and the browser uses the view name.
