Can anyone tell be the best way to create Alternates for a project? Or issue is that we are about finished with the CD's and owner wants to add an Alternate...That would consist of complete redesign - walls, doors, equipment, windows, schedules etc. Which is the best way Phasing, Design options, or a new file? I need to know the positives and negatives and how this is going to affect what has already been done.

Scrap design options and phasing. They will waste more time than their worth if the changes are extensive at all. Break off a new file.

I would have to agree, at this point it may be better to make a copy of the original CD's and make your modifications there. Design options are nice in the beginning when you and the client are throwing ideas around, but at this point you're better off making a copy.
