As an independant studies project this summer I modeled a kitchen cabinet family that is parametric for height, width, depth and materials. I then nested a door and drawer that have parameters for drawer height, reveals on all sides of door and drawers, width of rails and styles, profile styles and the ability to change door and drawer styles. The included picture is of this family and was generated by clicking in two cabinets, adjusting their parameters and rendering.
Do design firms generate and use such families? Is there a commercial market for such families if additional door styles and cabinet configurations are available. I agree with the opinion that revit can do an outstanding job of rendering. The render engine doesn't have all of the controls that other programs with the same render engine provide, but almost all the differences can be made up with a simple photoshop session.
