I am having difficulty placing components in my Revit Architecture 2012 model. They are wall hosted (outlets) & floor hosted (floor boxes) components. I have taken the MEP, Base Building, Interiors, and Structural models and linked them into my new file. I have linked them in as overlay. Should I have changed the reference type to attachment? When I go to place my components I recieve the following notifications from Revit and am unable to click any walls or floors: "Click on Wall to place Instance" (outlets) "Click on Floor to place Instance" (floor boxes)

How do I set up these linked files so I can place my families?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

this is tricky and there are alot of posts about this issue. As soon as you link in a model, Revit will only interperate walls as Faces so you have to use 'face based' components. I find it easiest to place face based components in 3D view while using a crop box to cut the wall in half. I've attached a face based outlet family to help, does it work with this?

Face Based makes perfect sense. You would think Revit would inteperate the walls as walls. So unless I copy all of the walls into my own model, having wall/floor hosted families will not serve my needs??

Your duplex worked perfectly fine. Do you know if there is an easy way to convert my wall hosted and floor hosted families to face based or should I just start all over?

Thanks for your help!

no way to convert, start by looking through the downloads section here on RevitCity. Otherwise, start from scratch. Its always easier the second time. I've attached another freebie, this time a light switch.

Face based families will host to linked models.
