I am evaluating the software for our small design firm using the 30 day free trial and some online video tutorials. My question is about what we call "curse roofs" where the front to back pitch would be 8:12 and the side to side pitch would be 12:12 to control the point of the roof. I can set the different pitches easily enough in sketch mode but the fascias will not line up when I apply. (see attachment) When I try adjust the plate height or overhang of a particular side to force it to line up, Revit says it cannot complete the footprint. Can anyone nudge me in the right direction?

It looks like your individual sketch lines have different "offset" values.    For starters, make each line have the same offset.

Next -- with the default eave treatment, plumbcut, the thicknesses are going to be different because of how the roof is sliced at an angle.  If you chance your eave type to two-cut plumb with a fascia depth of... say, 6 inches, you'll find that both line up nicely.

All offset values are the same. Here is what I am doing:

  1. Draw simple box with generic walls
  2. Add Roof foot print, select the 4 walls.
  3. Change the default pitch of 2 parallel sides to say 12:12
  4. Change roof construction to Rafter
  5. Select Finish

The fascias will not line up and using the plate offset on the 2 sides to force it to line up results in an error. I am not sure what you mean about how the roof is sliced on an angle.

I would suggest not using the walls for the footprint, but instead drawing a rectagle.  Sometimes a roof can get a little tweaked out when locked to walls.   I think that's your problem.  Just draw a new roof out to the side of your project to see what I mean.  I think you'll see it works exactly like you want.

All your other steps seems to be in order.

What I meant about fascia thickness -- is your last step, selecting the rafter cut type.  I suggest 2-cut plumb with a fascia thickness both slopes can support.

Thanks, that fixed it. I am so used to our current software that requires walls as reference points for roof planes that I didn't even think that I could draw a roof that wasn't "attached" to a wall.

It works better to attach the walls to the roof.  Roofs are one of the more inflexible and frustrating categories in revit, as it turns out.   Glad that fixed things.
