There is reference in the help file of 3D masking regions, and I understand you need to make a family, but what exactly does this entail?  I basically have an ortho view of a house with a section box around it and I want to mask off certain parts that the box isn't flexible enough to hide.

There isn't much info out there on how to do this...is it just creating a generic family that is essentially a white sheet?

well, you can override the objects you don't want to see and remove them from the view, if that's an option. 

Otherwise, I don't know of such a thing.  One workaround I've suggested in the past was to overlay a drafting view, on top of a 3D view on a sheet, and then draw masking regions in the superimposed drafting view.

Although a rule of thumb I've learned is that if it seems like there OUGHT to be an easier way to do something... there probably already is.  I haven't installed or played much with 2012 yet, I know they've got 3D annotation and view locks in that release.  Right?
