Simple question that surprisingly has not occurred to me until now.

Is it possible to make a single item (say a fireplace family) wireframe while everything else is shaded, or realistic, or something else?

Using Revit 2012.  Thanks.

sort of.  You can select the item, and if you right click you can use "override graphics in View"  and then by Element, and there can can make an object transparent, AKA wireframe.

You can't use this same system to make an object display as shaded in a wireframe view, however.  Override by element is pretty handy.  You can turn of and on surface hatches, or eliminate individual objects from just one view for artistic reasons, like renders.

Thanks.  Bummer there isn't more control over this.  In Rhino 4.0, I had the same question, but then the good fortune of finding they have a command for just that - changing the visibility of just one object.  *Sigh, chalk one up for the wishlist.
