I am creating a detailed window frame as shown in the attached picture. However, I am having trouble making it sweep. Is there an easy way to do this?

it should work fine as a sweep, you just need the profile, and a path. What seems to be the problem? The only problem I can imagine is if you're trying to make it wrap 360 degrees around the cut in the wall, and it's handling the 90-degree angles poorly...?
Sometimes really complex little angles and curves in your profile can have trouble navigating bends in a sweep's path.
Pic attached. For a sweep like this, use "pick 3D edge" for your path.

What's the advantage of using such a detailed window frame?

It would be a drag on your project if it's larger than a small home, if you get involved with that level of detail.
However, you could make some awesome 3D details like this.

We are required to make every model, etc. as realistic as possible so that we do not have confusion in the field. I think if anything it is more of a liability issue.
