HI!,

just installed Revit 2012 and had this message appearing while opening:

" The default templates file you have specified does not exsist.

To change the default file path form the application menu select OPTIONS and the file location...

I read somewhere if templates are missing I can just download templates and families of revit 2011...is that correct, are they gonna work fine?

In case it is, which is the correct locations for them? do I need to create a folder?

or do I need to reinstall revit?

is the following location correct for families?

c:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RAC 2012\Family Templates\English_I   or

c:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RAC 2012\Family Templates\English

(What the difference between .rft and .rfa files?)

and  for templates?

I'm quite confused I'm not really into installation, have had someone to help me but he's not really into revit either..

Hope someone is patient enough to help me.

Many thanks.

If you have installed the program correctly, the template files exist, it is just your paths that are wrong.  When you installed, you were asked where you wanted your library files.  Makes sure you know where that is.

Now, in Revit, click on the R and goto the bottom - options.

Under the file locations tab, there are 3 paths you should set. -

  1. The project template file location
  2. your default local save location
  3. Your family template locations

Set those and you should be fine.

Ermmm, might be a bit too late in your case but you totally don't need to reinstall Revit. Just get/download/create some template files and then assign them as default templates for Revit.
