While trying to create door families for a project I have had a repetitive problem when the wrap around jamb trim does flex to the outer skin of a layered wall system. I can fix this by adding an extra "instance offset" for each face, but this is an extra step I shouldnt have to take. the building model represents a 100 year old brick masonry structure with varying layers of plaster parging.
the solid brick walls of the model are full height from basement to the third story roof, with varying thickness "layer" finish walls joined to the brick core.
Wouldn't all this be solved if I copied all the walls from on floor to another, and edited each wall occurrence to provide the actual thicknesses needed? when is it better to copy floors verse running them full height.

If your wall is not one wall but actually multiple, joined walls, then you can not expect your door family to know thiis. It is hosted by one wall and everting is based on that wall. You will have to add a jamb thickness variable or handle with a seperate family.
If you had built these walls as most of us do using multiple types (one for each different thickness), you should not have this problem.
