When I download a family from Revit city, or double-click on another RVT file in Windows Explorer, a new session of Revit opens automatically.  I would like the file to open within the session that I already have open.  Is there a setting that can be set so I can do this?

I don't seem to have that problem.  I don't know of any Revit setting that causes this, perhaps it is a system setting.

It started with Revit 2011.

are you using revit 2012?  And it's opening 2011 by default?

You can tell windows which program to open it with.  If you right click on a revit file, go to "open with..."  and then browse to the 2012 exe file wherever that is.  That should override the 2011 default--the first path your computer learned for .rvt files.

Hope that helps.  Hope it works, too.

No. I deleted Revit 2011, it opens 2012, but I do not want it to open a new session, just open a new file in the current session. Do you know how to do this?

I have this same issue and it started with 2011. On my desktop it operates fine yet on the laptop I get multiple sessions open. I am curious to know the solution, I imagine it has to do with windows settings.
