So I am working on a project where I need to embed a link within the model that allows a user to "click" within a view that will bring up information, from a external source. Here is excatly what is going on.
I am working on a site and that has alot of product information.. (ie storm drainage, seeding, erosion control... ) I can show where they are within the model. How can I embed a link to the product information when the users will nt be using Revit.. It has to be able to be done from Renders or Walk through's.
I need alot of help with this, there has to be a way just not sure how to do it. PLEASE HELP

You can have URL's in parameters under type properties. You can use this same parameter for mapping to a file on your system - just put in the complete path.

Is there any kind of "icon" that will appear on the rendering to info people that there is additional information within the model or rendering itself?

No - as far as I know, you can't get a roll over.

So what advantage does the hyperlink provide to the user? Does that user have to be using Revit? My issue is that this will be displayed at a conference when they will not have Revit.
All I know is that I am completely screwed...lol

The parameter you assign in a family can be scheduled and if it is a shared parameter, it can be shown in a tag or exported but it is only directly addressible in Revit through the type parameters of the family. So obviously, if you want a hot link in Revit, you got to be using Revit.
Will this work as a hot link if exported to excel? I don't know. You would have to try and please - let us know.
You might do a little research with DWF's. I'm not sure what the latest release of that does, but it will give you a 3D, spinable model with all components listed and any 2D views you might want as well all in one file and it doesn't take Revit to view it.
