So I've been at firms that already have a template file up and running. I am now at a smaller company and I'm trying to rehash their old "project starter file" which was overloaded with entirely too much junk. I want to start a clean template file which I will then use to create new template projects. The problem is I can't find a tutorial or published checklist to run through items to consider for new template creation. I know it will be an item requiring update from time to time but I would really like to get the first base template as good as possible. Can anyone lead me to a anything that might help?

I don't recall anything here but you have already learned an important lesson - don't bog down your template!

We only have a few basic wall types and doors.  Obviosly a few plumbing fixtures, no windows and some hatches, very common detail elements and our standard lines / callouts / sheets. Most important here is style settings.

Our Title sheet with symbols / map / sheet index .... is all set up.  We also have a door schedule sheet with schedule and door elevations... same for windows and room schedule sheet.

We have seperate library projects - one for doors, one for windows, ...detail elements, ...hatches ... wall types ... plumbing fixtures and accessories....etc.  When we start a project, we open up the wall types - goto the legend sheet and copy/paste the wall legends (which also copies the types) and place those in the projects wall legend sheet.  As we need other elements, we open the appropriate library project.
