so Ive just upgraded to 2011, and I cant find the place to load a component. where is the "button" for Load Family?
ive been looking for 10 minutes :-P

From the home Tab you need to select a tpye of family eg component. once you chick on component the Load Family button emerges to the right.

The insert tab. Right side of the ribbon, there's a category-free button called Load Family. This will keep you out of trouble when, say, trying to load a window as a structural column, and getting errors that your family is not the correct "type."
So. Insert - load family.
