I have a logo for the local county government that I'm trying to make as a family so that I can just "stamp" it onto a sheet in the correct spot when needed, rather than design it as part of a sheet template.

It consists of a filled region, text, and an imported .png picture.

I have tried using the DETAIL COMPONENT template and the GENERIC ANNOTATION template, but in the first case, I can't place it on a sheet, and in the second place, I can't even get the items to copy into the template.

Does anyone know how I can reconcile these items into one family that can be placed on top of the title block?

Thank you.

Try a symbol family instead of a detail component, that's what we have for our logo. It can be dropped directly onto a sheet or view, or inserted in the titleblock family.

Where do I find the symbol family template?  I don't seem to have that.  Does it ship with RAC 2011?

I have no issue inserting (text, image, and filled region) from a generic annotation into a template file, so I am not 100% sure what your problem is

but

here is another option:

I know you said you don't want it as part of your title border but you could put into your title border and use a visibilty control to  turn it on or off for each sheet

Or

put your logo in a legend view and you can place the legend view as needed on each sheet.

The best option is to create a family, not sure why you can't get your 3 items not to work.

TKennedy:  What are you calling a symbol family?  A symbol is nothing more than a 2D annotation family inserted by the symbol button under Annotation Tab.  Am I missing something?

cadman6735: I'm fairly certain we are talking about the same thing. Perhaps adding the word family in my post was a bit superfluous.

TKennedy: It seems the OP was confussed by "symbol family" too and was looking for it.  I just wanted to be sure we all understood each other.  Thanks for the follow up.

Thanks for the responses.  What I ended up doing was creating a generic annotation file, and since it wouldn't let me copy anything over from the family I had already created (since I guess in annotation families you can have sheets and not views, and vice-versa with detail component families?), I just created it from scratch as a generic annotation.  Then once that family was loaded into the project, I could use the symbol button to place it like a stamp on the sheet.
