I have had this question for a while, but it didn't really bug me until I started messing around with Conceptual Masses. I am trying to move one of the corners of the conceptual mass a certain distance from the other corner. When I highlight the corner point, the dimensions in the attached picture show up, but I'm looking for the dimension along the line that has the question mark pointed to it. Drawing an aligned dimension between the two points just creates a dimension that I can't change. I can slide (inaccurately) the point toward the other point, but how on EARTH would I get it to be, oh, 40' from that point instead of 40' 2 1/8" or something.
*In the drawing, I am in the "Edit In-Place" mode, version 2011.
Help much appreciated. Thanks.

as a general rule, when you select something, a couple of temporary (small blue) dimensions pop up. These can be clicked on to change its dimensions, or change its location relative to... whatever the temporary dimensions reference. If revit chooses poorly and the dimensions don't dimension to anything useful, you can grab the blue grips of the temporary dimension, and stretch it to wherever you want. Like, a grid line, instead of a nearby wall face, or centerline of a door opening, etc.
To change the value of a temporary dimension, just click the number. Perminant, annotative dimensions cant' be used.
Also. If you want a dimension style that rounds, you can do that too. such as, rounding to the nearest inch, or foot.
I mostly use dimensions that round to the nearest 1/256th when I'm building, so that I know everything is correct, and when we annotate our sheets, we switch to 1/8th rounding or coarser.
You can also click the little icon below a temporary dimension to make it a "real" dimension.
To be more relevant to your question, you might have to move both points.

Ok, thanks for the response.
But if you look at the picture I attached, how would I drag one of the blue markers to the dimension I need? They run in different directions. And I understand being able to make those temp. dimensions permanent, but I can't even get ANY dimension for the value I'm looking for.
How would anyone out there go about telling the point in question to get a certain distance from the other corner point?

I looked at your picture. It's a little vague. Also, I see two dimensions. One going down, and one going backward. Right? The 44' 6" one? That's the one you want to change?
edit: OH. you want to change the width, along the line your question mark is pointing to. I see. approach this in a top-down view. see if that helps.
