I have searched the forum but could not find a suitable answer.

B and I are working on the same project in a central file with workshare. We save to the server for our central file and work off of our desktops.

It is not a template file. We cannot have a owner and a borrower on the same floorplan workset. I have attached an image. If brian has ownership ofd the floorplan workset I cannot move anything without asking for permission and it will not let me borrow. Also there is a notification sent but no option to allow

Do I need to have workshare monitor on my system?

Cheers

That is correct, if you own the workset, nobody else can use it.  We only borrow worksets 99% of the time and so two of us can be in the same view, we just can't be working on the same elements.

HERE IS A GOOD TIP.  Don't work in sheet views when working on model elements.  We have seperate plans/elevations that are named by the user name.  We use these for most of our model development and only go to the sheet views for annotation work.

So to reiterate...... Brian and I should both be borrowing the workset for our arch dwgs and not claiming ownership?

In the workset dialog box it shows arch as not editable Brian is owner I am borrower. I am working on detail callout views and Brian is working on the floor plan.

I can work fine for awhile then when I go to move any element in my callout I have to get permission from brian and I see that I have been removed as a borrower?

Is this wierd..apologies if I am not clear

Oh and we are not working from sheet view. You brought up a point I had not thought about. is it standard revit practice to do all annotation on sheets?

I had been adding my text and dimensions to my section and callout views.

No - don't annotate on sheets.... ABSOLUTLY NOT!  I meant views that would be placed or are already on sheets.

Worksets become owned for various reasons.  When you create a view, you will own it until relinquished.  If you change a view parameter, like scale, you will become a borrower of the view and nobody else will be able to change view properties.  BUT they can still work in the view and can work on any element that nobody owns or ha borrowed.

Good practice is to have the reliquish borrowed elements checkbox checked for when you save to central.  You should save to central probably at 15 - 30 minute intervals minimum and always befor you leave your desk.

I typically never checkout a workset.
