Hey, I'm new to this forum but not so much to AutoCAD Revit... well sorta, working on my third project in revit and it nice to see all the enthusiest and prffesionals helping each other out, can't wait to learn more and be apart of some great conversations. So I've been working with this program for a couple of years now and am finally able to produce projects in it and just happy to be apart of this!

Welcome,

Just one word of advice, because if you ask questions, you will get slammed with it at some point... READ the HELP Files!

You've been warned! Smile

I am a huge fan of the help file, but I am not a huge fan of the new help file that take me to the internet explorer.  I like the older version with the content books, Index and search, I find that more user friendly.

With the new version if I type in, what I think to be a key word like "sweep" it tell me "Search Result, No Results Found"

It is almost imposible to use.

The old version I could just start to type and it would take me to the letters being typed as they are being typed and I could see subcatagories too.  Is there a way to get the old help menu back?

i would say just open up your older version of revit and search thru it there, but i used the HELP menu today and it was pretty helpfull,  i like the tree system to find your way thru it, it's help not here's the answer to the question of the day

Well to me the older version was "the answer of the day" now it is "what is your quesion, please rephrase your question I don't understand"

and the older versions of help doesn't have the answers to the newer versions of Revit.

now it is more like google search

Just another thing I have to get used to

If I type "Sweep" I get nothing

If I type "Sweeps" I get what I am looking for

If I look at the command on the Ribbon it is call "Sweep"

If I type "swe" in the old version it will take me where I want to go plus have options to see things that I may or may  not know are there for further study.

It's the little things ya know

Welcome to the forums.

You can turn off online help. I forget the exact way to do so, but it's not difficult. Then it reverts back to the old local help files.

Thanks, I found the info

http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=14994272&linkID=9243099

But I can't get it to work, maybe someone else can get it to work and explain to me what I am missing.

StructGuy

the Revit Reps want to sell you a product, to them everything is the bees knees.

LOL, I love it!  Yes, when I first got revit, I opened up the help file, gulped, then committed to hitting the print button, and included nested links (i.e.- I printed the whole darned thing).  I then as cadman6735 said, read through it like a book.

Good luck doing that to the new help files.  I agree they are crap.  Seems like all helpfiles are going that way.  Used to be that if you were in a dialog box, and then choose the help command, that it opened up to any section containing help on that particular dialog box.  Seems like we've gone for dumber help files, most likely in the attempt to earn some extra $$.

Now can I truly complaign?  No, because I earn additional pay by consulting those of you who don't have the time to read these new convoluted help files and make sense of them.  So I thank my lucky stars every time I do work on the side, that the help files have caused more chaos and confusion out there, resulting in more revenue for me.

Thank you Autodesk!

@thetabest

I love it...  There is a bright side to everything and you found it.  Great point.

well making money out of something that most users hate is some serious silver linning.

To be honest i like the wiki-based help, not too crappy but definatly not as fast as what it was before.

But my biggest problem is not being able to back save, i have Architects that don't have subscription and dont' get the newest product when it first comes out, and i opened an existing project and didn't realize that if you do this then your s.o.l. .... yeah Thanks AutoDesk!!!

cadman -

We can't use the on-line HELP because McAfee interferes too much.  We followed the instructions for setting the switch to local HELP and it works great in 2011.  Just now looking to see if it is the same process for 2012.

And the local HELP works fine for "sweep".
