Greetings all,
I'd love to hear if anyone has managed to solved this :
has anyone be able to control the silhouette edges of a linked file without having to use the lineweight tool? There doesn't seem any way to override the default thin line setting for the appearance of a linked file (in elevation view).
I've found that that silhouette edge options available in the graphics displays options command don't seem to work on a linked model. Even if I set the silhouette edges within the linked file itself and try to get the linked view settings to override the host settings - no go. Yet if I bind the linked file then the silhouette edges show up. I've tried both Revit 2011 and 2012 to no avail. I've also tried a building section and same thing - I can't control the silhouette edges of the linked file. Using the lineweight tool seems to be a such a huge waste of time.
Brilliant workarounds / insights would be much welcomed. I've scoured the forums before posting this question but have not come across any similar situation.
p.s. The reason for this comes down to file size. The hope was to have a linked file which contained the building skin while the core elements were contained elsewhere - I was getting complaints from team members about how long it took to refresh views, save files etc. It looks like I may have no choice but to either work with the skin as a group which will get me my edges, use the lineweight tool or create a workset for the exterior skin.

Thanks for the quick reply WWHub - that seemed to work.
So this is a general question to all - Is there any difference graphically between overriding the lineweight of projected line of a wall / category via VG command and the silhouette edge override available through the graphic display options? I guess the silhouette edge override can control the edges of all categories on display simultaneously while VG override is a little more labour intensive huh? Nothing a view template couldn't solve but sheesh if they could only make silhouette edge display consistent regardless of linked file or not.
