I just edited a water heater family in the model, added parameters for various data.  I made a new mechanical equipment schedule and filtered by type mark.  I clicked on the water heater and the properties dialog box under text has all of the fields I entered in the family editor, but the data is blank.  The only way these seem to show up on the schedule is if I manually type them in again......

Read this topic in your HELP:> Shared Parameters

Then you will also have to read how to create them in your shared parameters file.

Come back if you have problems.

when you loaded the family into the project, it gives you a message saying you are about to overwrite the current family, and gives you two choices, the top one preserves any data that you already have established or modified in the project, whereas the 2nd choice (the bottom one) allows you to override all changes and restore the family to "out of the box".  I think this might be why you didn't get your data, if you clicked the top choice, and the parameters were empty in the project, then they would remain empty, try again using the bottom choice (be forewarned that this will set the types to be exactly as they are in the family editor...)

thetabest is correct with one exception, selecting 'Overwrite the existing version and its parameter values' will only affect type parameters, instance parameters will be left alone.
