We are working on re-arranging our finish schedules and keys so that everything can be set up most effectively. Currently, we have schedules set up for the north, south, east and west walls in each room. This would mean having to make four different finish keys for each of these schedules. In this format, I am only allowed to select one finish option for each area (i.e. floor, walls, ceiling, etc...).  From what I know, the information in the keys cannot be copied and pasted either. This would mean that if one peice of information changes, we would have to change it on four different keys. We would also like the finish information to show up on both the floor plans and interior elevations in a tag.

We are just trying to figure out the best way to set this all up. If you have some advice on the best way to format our material keys and finish schedules to allow all these options, I would really appreciate it.

I must warn you that you should use finish keys sparingly.  As you have obvoiously found out, one change creates problems.  Instead, learn to use a working schedule that sorts your rooms in a manner that by using the "don't show all instances" allows you to have same type on one line for ease of data entry and allows you to use the drop downs.  Then you re-sort on another parameter to do a different element.

As an example, lets say 90% of your floor material on the second floor is Carpet A.  Sort the rooms by floor and assign all rooms to Carpet A.  Now you sort all rooms by room name and filter / isolate the toilets so that you can change these to Tile B....Then lets sort by department.... Add that field to this schedule if you need ... and do whatever.

Obviously you can't do this with everything but by adding fileds like Department and maybe some general room types, you can do 90% of your work, then go into those select fiew and individually change those unique walls.

JUST REMEMBER... You can have more than one schedule.  Leave your sheet schedule alone and change it from a working schedule.
