It should be pretty easy to do it with conceptual mass.

although i haven't done one like this, you should be able to set up the points as an arch and create form by picking the points

revit massing used to be a simple program for stuff

like making curvy roofs and things- but since they

turned it into something as complex as 3Ds Max for

the design artist- it lost me.. but it's all good.. and

that's the one and only thing that works a little different

for 2011 with the native UI.. but that reminds me that

i intend to learn it..

@PCHAN: is there a way to neatly place points in the surface of an arch's slope? what i intend to do is add edges then move the point of these edges until they form the curving profile. if i do so, am i doing it the hard way?

Hi there, -- I think that I can offer some suggestions on how to model this with the basic tools, if that is more appealing to you.

I see no parabola in this model, only a hemisphere cut back at an angle!

You can model this in two moves -- One, being an arched sweep, the path running up the ride of your roof from back to front, and the profile being a hemisphere, and the 2nd object being a void to cut back the lip for the nice parabolic-looking overhang it has there.    I'll upload a pic in a bit after I leave work to illustrate what I mean.

Though... conceptual masses can look pretty sharp... I think this geometry is really quite simple.

Okay, this was ~10 minutes, the orange shell is one sweep, there's another sweep with a path along the edge (gray) to soften it and give a curled-over look, and the void is invisible, but extends from the upper tip to the underside of the roof where it behins sloping downward.  If that's somewhat clear.
