Hi;

I have created a generic face based family and I have assigned material to it, but when I render, the material doesn't show up. any idea what is the problem. I am using Revit architecture 2012.

First what shows up?  2nd, does your face based object extend beyond its host?  If it is flush with its host, then the host will show up and the object won't... If your object is showing up, but the material is wrong, then you should adjust to another material, verify that the material has indeed been set (i.e.- if you have to edit the family to change the material, when you load the family back into the project, choose the bottom choice when it asks you to override).  Without further details on what you are getting I can only throw out some common offenders.
