What version are you using? I had the same problem in 8.0 and an upgrade to 8.1 solved the problem.

using 8.1...so it may happen again to you. please let us know if you figure it out. i'm contacting Autodesk now.

Funnily enough - mine is fine in plan form - it is just the 3d that does that.
The roof seeting is BASIC ROOF - Customorb on 150mm structure'
Structure Metal Roof 16
Structure Structure light 150
Structure Metal Firring 50
Structure Finishes-Interior 10
All these are set to 0 transparency and the Model Graphics Style is Shading with Edges

EUREKA...i found changing the top plane in the view depth from "unlimited" to a distance off of a level, the wireframe mode went away. In the mean time I duplicated the second floor, renamed Roof Plan and changed view heights....this worked to replace the roof plan.
Even with the view top clip at unlimited the drawing worked....not sure what causes the "wireframe" bug to kick-in. Autodesk did not know the answer to this issue.

This doesn't work for me because in mine it is only the 3d view that shows the roof this way. The plans, elevations and sections are fine. It is actually quite a handy 'tool' if it could be turned on and off easily.
In the visability/graphics overrides in the model categories the Roof 'surface pattern' setting appears permanently greyed out.

Autodesk's response was the z coordinate was too far off the origin and by turning off the 'site' this issue could be resolved. Don't know if this is true about the z coordinate but turning off the site did restore the opaque roof surfaces.
so to fix issue either;
- turn off site
or
- set top view depth to unlimited
or
- move project closer to z coordinate origin?
