Since shutting down yesterday, the centre of the "default 3D" view has moved. I don't know how, nor how to get it back to a more central location. Yesterday I did not have this problem.... really!
The user's guide mentions the camera views, but this is not a 3d view that I created. The project centre is right in the middle of my building, so that hasn't moved.
I found this in the forums, but not certain if it applies here:
"The default "3D" view uses the extents of the project to determine center of rotation. Revit was set up this way intentionally with the understanding that users would create their own 3D views of their project as needed. Spinning/rotation done in these user created views uses the focal point of these 3D views as the center of rotation. Just turn off the crop region. Add an overall User 3D view to your project template and it's always available as well. Post edited on 2004-10-07 11:17:09"

I've had this problem as well, it is caused in my case by placing an object at a weird elevation. which makes the program zoom out to see all. I've had it so far out nothing could be seen. If you find the object and delete it then your 3D views will work correctly again.
Good Luck

Thanks, I'll give that a look-see. Last thing I did yesterday WAS move a crazy wall, & today I saw that all sorts of stuff went wonky. ARGH! Perseverance shall pay off!

Well, what do you know??? That was the solution. The object wasn't hidden in any view, but a "shadow" of it showed up when I clicked on the lightbulb in the main plan view, so I erased it... which deleted the wall that was moved. Very strange. (The object that I erased sort of looked like a VERY long wall.)
Thanks for the suggestion.

I haven't tried it so I'm not certain it will work, but you could turn on the section box for that view and adjust it to where you want the extents to be. Then Revit should ignore any wonky stuff outside of the box. If you don't want to see it, you can do a hide in view on the section box.

Sounds like you have this sorted out, but yeah, when you orbit, it takes the entire extent of the project into account. So if there has been some sort of error that copied an item to the left, 500 feet, your orbit will essentially be broken.
Using section boxes are an excellent way of controlling your center, but you can also select any random object, like a door, near where you want to look, and your selection will become your pivot point.
Best bet though is to delete whatever went insane and jumped way out of your model, by right clicking in space and selecting "zoom to fit." At this distance the offender might be too small to see on screen, so try drag-selecting everything in space, see what you find.

quick explanation of what happened: I've seen before as I trim walls, or join walls, etc. that if they are at funky angles, I've seen walls suddenly extend 1,000s of feet as they try to join each other, etc. Mostly when playing with wall joins AND profiles, etc. Anyway, I bet you that when you moved that wall, there was another wall attached to it, which then went and became extremely long for some reason.
