how does one go about creating a vehicle or modifying one that is already created?

you can create your cars, with the normal modelling tools, solid, extrusion, sweep, voids... you will need a bit of patients though Smile most of the vehicles are imported from max and the like...

I'll think you'll find that all of them have been imported from max or viz. To edit them you would need to export them back out to these programs and edit them there.

so does that apply to applying rendering materials also?

I have found that if you go into the family editor and go to settings and select materials you can go through and select the materials that they have already defined and define them to what ever you want.
