Hello all.
Is there a way to create a door family type without having to use the door family template file? I want to create a wrap-around HMF for a door family. My dream-come-true scenario would be to create a generic model that I can manipulate so that the door shows up in the door components drop-down list. Any thoughts?
Thanks a bunch for any input on this.

Why don't you want to use the door family template? There is no reason you can't apply a sweep, with the hollow metal frame's profile around the cut opening the door makes in the wall.

I agree with 'itsmyalterego' but you could start a new family using the "Generic Model wall based" template file. Then under its 'Family Category' change it to Doors.

Don't put this in the door catagory unless you want to deal with it in your door schedules. It is far easier to just add the sweep in the door family. And the frame throat size can be parametric.

I didn't want to use the door family template file because—and this is the short version—I was having trouble getting it to do what I wanted it to do (dealing with reference planes). However, I definately can make a generic model and associate with with the door family category as shown! That's awesome. Thanks, everyone, for all the input.
