Just loaded 2012 and am having trouble understanding Appearance Property Sets. I can create a property set with the name of the material or rename it. Does that mean I have duplicate info? I can create a library of sets. But the swatch pattern of my customized materials only shows correctly in the appearance menu on the right. In libraries and property sets menu a default wood pattern shows as the swatch. In the past, I have created and stored materials as part of the template file. Whenever a new project is started, those materials are part of the file. The template file is also updated periodically with new materials or adjustments. I was thinking that property sets or a library of sets would be a way to update material settings to an existing file... similar to reloading a component.

Any suggestions on how to organize materials... with or without Property Sets? What is the advantage of property sets? Or any links to good tutorials on this issue? I've looked at the basic Help information but still don't get it. Thanks.
