Hi all, For many years now I have used Revit, for many years now I have played first person shooters. With a few good models under my belt now, I would like to build a playable level. For those familiar with FPS's, you may appreciate the enjoyment in running around shooting people and about learning the environment you are playing in intimately. Can anyone give me a steer how to convert a Revit model into a gaming type 3d model? Thanks in advance Beau

Are you trying to create a level for any specific game? What software you use to generate a game level is based on the engine the game is using. Widely used engines like Unreal and Valve's Source engine have their own level editor, but there are some more open professional engines like GtkRadiant =, which is what CoD maps are often made on a modified version of. Your game may even have a built in editor, which is actually fairly common. I have heard of other 3d programs like 3dMax, Bleder, Maya, etc. being used for level design, I think with a special plugin based on a specific game. If that's the case, I know you can export a model to 3d max if you have it (if you're a student it's for all intensive purposes free, or you could try a trial), and redo lighting, etc. What specifically would depend on the plugin.

Let me know what game you're trying to work with and I'll try and be a bit more specific for you.

im not sure if this works from revit, never tried it. BUT here it goes

Export the geometry to 3dmax (export as fbx)

In 3dmax assign pretty textures. When you finish that export as .obj (watchout the units!!!)

Import that into milkshape 3d ( is a freeware). Export that to gtk radiant ( as .map)

Now, the problem is that every face now has a tickness... you have to take that in mind when modelling .

And add lights... many spotlights can cheat the photorealistic look of an interior.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

pd: Another thing i never tried was try to import into the sauerbraten engine... never had the timeto try that.

Thankyou both for your awesome respones. I will give them a try.

I think either Unreal or Valve would be ok. I am a regular COD MW2 player, so I would be happy with being able to use that.

Ideally as it is a private interest, I would prefer to use a level editor that is free and I can use 3DMax from work.

Thanks again.

Unity 3d , just create your own game.
