I am wondering if there is a way to create an elevation that will match the angle of a titled wall.  In our project we have a curtain wall system that was created from a mass and the wall tilts outward at 8 degrees.  The walls themselves are linear and parallel at the top and bottom.  We are in need of a true projection so we can export  the file to the laser cutter.

Thanks for your help, Kevin

2D projection?

no such thing-

projection:

1. a projecting or protruding part.

2. the state or fact of jutting out or protruding.

when something protruds out from 2 dimensions it
becomes 3 dimensions..

I think my language is a little off, let me try this again.  I’m thinking of the projection as a 2d view of the 3d object, such as an elevation.  When the projection plane of the 2d view is parallel the dimensioning values are true dimensions.  ie a North elevation of a vertical wall perpendicular to North.  If the same elevation is taken to a wall at a 45 degree angle the dimensions will no longer be their true length.

Can the projection plane of the 2d view be changed to become in plane with the 3d wall?  Then the 2d drawing can be dimensioned with true lengths.

To get a true projection of the wall (and contrary to vector 23, that is the correct term), simply cut a section through the wall. then from that section cut another one vertically.  You can then rotate this section until it is parallel with the leaning wall.

You will have to play with this process a bit until you get the hang of it.  I would add a line parralel to the wall and move it to where it intersects the wall section line.  Then pick rotate and the section cut - move the rotation to the line section intersection and rotate accordingly.

Its all so simple once you figure out the trick.  First wall worked like a charm, this is going to save many headaches.  Thanks for the help!
