Hi, I have been facing some serious problems in rendering. The engine seemingly completes a certain percentage and simply stalls. I have checked all settings for the render, but it simply doesnt proceed. Please advise!

Could be your resolution settings. If you don't need the rendering immediately, do the following (if you haven't) 1). Run the rendering (interior or exterior?) as a low resolution 1 pass, and see if it renders (although poorly). Then you will have to decide what to do next. If it renders, there's nothing wrong with your project/machine combo. The next question is then why is it hanging. DId you run a radiosity solution - a LONGGGGG process - and BIG solution) I have a 4 processor/1 Gig Memory box and can't reasonably run a 800 dpi 8x11 resolution. (Ran 12 hours without a percentage change) It sounds like all was okay, just a couple of variables to explore. Look at the image size of the camera shot, make sure you're not rendering a 24x36 300 DPI image. Give more info - Machine, memory, Hdisk, etc, Resolution of image/ image size and perhaps a more clear response will be possible.. OH YEAH, one other comment - ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS - Save your project BEFORE you start rendering. I've had to crash the program to free my processors to do other tasks, and I have lost changes - DUMB - ALWAYS save before rendering.... Post edited on 2004-04-02 17:05:41

Thanks Ski South! I realized it was the Radiosity settings as well as Raytrace quality set at best that was causing the problem. The resolution was 950 dpi!! I retained the resolution but toned the radiosity setting to better while retaining Raytrace at best quality. My PC -- 2.8 p4, 1G Ram, Nvidia GeF4 64Megs onboard... What do you think would be an ideal resolution and the associated timing? By that I mean, an optimum print of photo quality on a 11x17... Thanks again! Post edited on 2004-04-05 16:55:22

Some of the best renderings I have printed have been 300 dpi for an 11x17. Note that your image can be much higher quality than most printers can reproduce or need to reproduce. Unless you are offset printing I would reconsider the final resolution. I have successfully run 400 dpi, bu that was really more than necessary. Most clients have been very pleased with 300 DPI. - But that's your time and decision to make. Remember this - the size of an 11x17 image at the following resolutions - 300 Dpi - 48.2 Megs, 600 DPI - 192.6 Megs, 950 DPI- 482.8 Megs. I really don't know how much memory is used by Accurender when processing a file, but in 3dMax and AutoCAD you pretty much had to have 3 times the final image size to be able to process the image. I limit my bounces to 2 (unless there is glass and reflections - then go to three) You pretty much will have to process the radiosity to probably get the image you are thinking you want - so double check your resolution (which needs to match your final image) - and that all the lights are on or off (depending on what you want) and set the file to process while you are away- My little Nvidia goes crazy after a big render, - be patient after it stops - It IS pushing a lot of info around. As soon as you can get to the menu - Save it. Then worry about what you have. Remember the radiosity file will be huge- If you save it to harddisk - Expect 200 - 400 Megs ( again resolution comes to play). Note that after you process the radiosity, you process the Ray Trace. You should get a first look image in about 3 or 4 minutes at the worst. On the third pass the percentage completion crawls, especially if you are bouncing light everywhere. I sent a little image to post, don't know if its made it through yet, but look for a "Yazoo Bank" - Anyway, nice interior perspective you have posted. Post edited on 2004-04-05 21:20:08
