I was wondering if anyone could explain to me why it is that my dimensions would just simply disappear? They don't appear to be hidden; and there have been no overrides applied to them in either Visibility Graphics Overrides or Right-click>Override Graphics in View>By Elements. They simply have vanished from every view / drawing sheet (30+ sheets) that originally contained them. The dimensions included grid dimensions, wall dimensions on floor plans and height dimensions for elevations and sections.  Some sections of the drawing have not been modified for some weeks now, yet all the dimensions have disappeared.Since we have only been currently working on one particular area of the job, it seems a little odd that the dimensions from another parts of the job are being "deleted" as well. This is in a large project with approximately 50+ drawing sheets, so losing dimensions becomes a bit of a drama when you have to go in and re-dimension everything.

This is the second time that this has happened in the last week, and it is posing a bit of a threat to the security of our work.If anyone is able to help, it would be greatly appreciated. Smile

Now... I'm confused.  ALL dimensions are gone, or only some dimensions are gone?

first thing I can think of is that dimensions will vanish of one of their references are deleted or replaced.  For example, if you delete a malformed floor because it's easier to copy/paste from another level, any dimensions to that floor will be deleted, if the warnings were brushed off.  That might account for some of the missing dimensions on your older sheets.  Maybe old grids were deleted and new ones were arrayed across at some new spacing... But you say your work has been localized... so this doesn't seem like a good explanation.

Also, how many people do you have working on your project?  This is 95% likely human error of some kind.

Also, check for hidden elements with the lightbulb at the bottom of the view, "reveal hidden elements" to see if they're hidden, if that's not how you were checking before.  Maybe someone flew through the set applying a view template?  to be helpful?

Yes, all the dimensions are gone.

We believe that we have tried everything you have suggested about the hidden elements etc. And to answer your question about how many people are working on the project, there are 2 of us.

I'm not quite sure what you mean with the last part of that reply: "Maybe someone flew through the set applying a view template?  to be helpful?"

But thankyou for your input so far Smile

I am in agreement with alterego except that I believe this is 99.99% a user error.  I have never seen a complaint like this in Revit except for one item.  If you are dimensioning to linked items rather than native Revit items in your file and you have somehow changed these elements in the linked files.

The other possibility is that someone used SA on a dimension and deleted them all - not just the ones in one view.

Some of my dimensions disappeared and I think the reason is sometimes the only way to get a proper dimension location is with a reference plan and if I delete that reference plane (green dashed lines) the dimension disappears.

As you dimension, the item you are dimensioning to is displayed in the lower left hand corner.  You should always be paying attention to that.  When two objects have a plane in the exact same place, you don't know which you have chosen to dimension to, unless you pay attention to this area.  If you turn off an underlay, or a category in VG or you delete an object and you dimensioned to that, then that portion of your dimension will disappear.
