Is there a way to insert a detail component into the structure of the wall? I know you can add sweeps, reveals, etc, but I wonder if you can add a detail coponent the same way, something that only shows in drafting/sheet sections?

One of the ways you can embed detail component is to nested it inside the profile family, then you can use the profile family to be part of integrated sweep for your wall type. maybe that can help you to achieve what you want You can also set the visibility to control the detail component to be shown on certain level.
