Hi, We are updating from Revit 2009 to 2011. To enhance the rendering and animation performance we are also planning to buy new desktops. I am suggesting the following system configuration; I have compiled this from different forums. Auto CAD Revit : Presently we are using 2009, this shall be updated to 2011, we may also get Autodesk 3ds Max Design. Processor: Intel core i7 2.4GHz Quad Core turbo boost 8MB Cache RAM: 12 GB DDR3 1333 mhz in triple channel with motherboard supporting this technology which will have 6 DIMM slots HD: 2 drives, one for operating system, and one for Revit files. This enhances performance as we now have two drives with which to read and write data (one for the OS and pagefile, and one for Revit File and other files). Or 320GB 7200rpm hard drive with FFS OR 256GB Mobility Solid State Drive.Graphics Card: 1GB NVIDIA Quadro FX3800 or Nvidea GeForce GTX 580 or GTX 480OS: Windows 7 64 bitCan some one suggest, if this configuration is sufficient?

Any cost efficient alternatives to these, shall be highly appreciated. (We are a construction company; we use revit to demonstrate the construction methodologies through animations)

Regards,

Renji

i sure this setup will run Revit, but i would also consider the following:

I would check the Autodesk Graphic card list and make sure that your card is one of the Autodesk approved cards.High End Graphic Cards does not mean high end performance when it comes to Revit.

Since you are Rendering and Animation focused. i would maxizie the cores (8 to 12) and Ram (12GB to 24GB) Your Quad Core (4) will get you by. Revit 2011 uses a totally different rendering engine than 2009 and it will take advantage of multiple cores. But rendering at high resolutions is very, very, very, time consuming with Revit and the Mental Ray render engine.

the only thing i will say about your drives is that Solid State drives are nice but expensive. though the prices have been coming down.

Good Luck with your upgrade to 2011
