Revit 2011 Hi, I'm wondering if there are any downsides to using an "area plan" for construction drawings instead of a floor plan, since in floor plans you cannot use the area tool without fiddling around with rooms and/or parameters to get unit areas to show up. So far I haven't found a good reason not to just use area plans throughout. Can anyone shed light on the subject? Thanks

I am considering this as well - it's great for multi-family projects, as Area Plans seem to be capable of hosting both Area Tags and Room Tags.
Has anyone since come up with a reason this wouldn't work? MYoung how did it work out for you?

Yes it works totally fine. In fact I found no issues at all. You will just find that there is a little bit of management required on the project browser as you will likely have some floor plans and a lot of area plans, but that doesn't matter; its just organization.
I just took the project in question through development and building permit, and no issues arose.

Well I am currently trying to use my area plans in my documents for a minor project. My boss wants me to reference the area plans in my site plan, but when I try to use the "Reference View" tab, it doesn't have an option for area plans, and I can't figure out any way around it to reference them.
Did you have this problem?
Any help is appreciated.

I ran into the same problem as Julia S. I end up creating a new set of floor plans because I want to use reference view tags.
I am using these plans for now to show building area and there are some matchlines with reference view. However, I am worried that down the road, when I need to show Room area, I will need to redo the room area boundary and make the wall 'Room Bounding' again. (since Floor Plan doesn't allow you to used Aread Boundary and I am using 'Room Boundary' to measure the entire building footprint)
Anyway, these sound like a mess and probably not the right way to do it. Thanks ahead if anyone has a better workaround!
