I am working on a model started by someone else and there are walls I cannot select. I have tried in plan views section custs through the walls, elevations and nothing seems to work.

What version are you using?
Try to check your status bar.The "Select Pinned Element" mark as "x" located at the lower-right side of your screen.Remove the sign "x" by clicking. then try to select the wall.
And if your wall is a Revit link use TAB to be able to select.
