I tried to download object like doors and window from Autoseek and revit.com but when I opened them they are just werid.( I took a short couse last month at Tafe and when I did it in the class the teacher already put them all in the nice fo l der that i can just pick them to use) so now my problem is - I only want a door but it comes with the wall and i cant delete them. I download them in RFA but when i opened in revit they came with a lot of details , dimention, and I cant use them!!! I know I must did something wrong and i stuck with this for a few days. i felt like it too hard to learn. could anyone explain how this works please.

REVIT rfa familes are 'Inserted' into a project. Do not 'open' the family file because that opens the family editor. Which is why you are seeing the wall, reference planes and parameters. You need to use the 'Load Family' tool and insert the door or window family into the project. You can also drag the family file into revit from windows explorer. I'm very curious, how much did the short course at Tafe cost and how many hours was it?

hi there, Thank you for the feedback. I paid $ 900 for 24 hours.. That was a couple months ago and I just decided to take it more seriously recently I'm thai and I have a good english but not great!! I knew Im pretty slow,.. Unfortunately. This might sounds funny but It really took me almost the whole day just to fixed it out how to create and set up a project browser: ( It seem very easy in the class when I have someone who always there guiding but as soon as the course done, I felt pretty much lost. Well, Dont want to keep complainning anymore. I'm trying to get back on the track and learnning at home as much as I could, plus supporting from such a nice people on revitcity here. I'm sure I can do it.!!! I really appreciate your answers. This would help a lot. I will let you know how it goes. best regards may

wow $900 for 24hrs??? I'd rather spend $199 worth of cadclips videos! lol seriously, its very easy. In revit 2011, open both your revit family file (rfa file) and your revit project file (rvt file). then in your revit family file (be it door or window), go to "modify" tab and click the "Load into Project" button. you'll see that after clicking the"Load into Project" button, you'll be taken to your project file where a ghost of your family is in the tip of your cursor and is ready to be inserted in any wall that you want to pick. (note: only wall hosted family such as the likes of door, window wall hosted families will be inserted in the wall). and for some reason, while after clicking the "Load into Project" button - you lost the family. (no hint in your cursor)... find your family in the Project Browser and drag it in the view to get the same effect. this procedure is applicable to all families you'd want to load in your project but bear in mind that some families needs a host so you can insert them in your project. hope this further helps cheers!
