"It appears that people who are Gong-Ho about Revit are more interested in the "model" than the plan set"

I guess I just don't understand then.  Our model is used to create the plan set, they are not 2 different entities.  Details are derived from the model.  We use detail components to spruce up the model sections/details.  If you have vertical and horiontal rebar right on top of eachother (not sure how that would really happen anyway) have 2 details showing the correct dimensions. Eitherway it seems you are set on faking dimensions so good luck on your endeavors.

Cutting details off of the model is not the best way to detail for multiple reasons. First, they look terrible even if you "spruce" them up. Second, this means you are creating every one of your details for every one of your projects from scratch; this is a waste of time, which is a waste of budget, which is a waste of money. Third, this practice also leaves ample room for missing a needed note on the detail or mistakes in the noting. If you were my drafter and even suggested this method of detailing I would fire you today. Good luck in your endeavors, as well, I think you need it more than I do.

I was initially responding to the original post, by the way.  Someone asked how to override dimensions, and instead of being a snarky Revit Nazi I posted the answer to the question.  If you don't want to use it, don't; I really don't care what you do.

You mentioned modeling so hence I said detailing from Modeling.  We have standard details that we use on every project.  Your short sightedness and temper after getting critisisim and suggestions on the CORRECT way to do things is disappointing and I feel bad for your drafters. You fire people for making suggestions? Hmm you must know everything then.  Yes someone asked how to override dimensions and you gave an answer.. then you recieved the corrected one.

Although this thread has evolved to something else, it is still worthwhile.

What teafoe and I are trying to tell you is you just don't have enough experience to write what you just posted.  That is understandable because we all have been where you are.

I'm and old guy - started working, hand drafting in '68 then went to AutoCAD 2.6.  I did my own lisp routines, menus and script in the '70's for CAD that did some of the things Revit does.  Went to ADT about 18 years ago and finally to Revit 8.6.  I've not looked back since then.

Believe me, if you can't do a wall section, detail or drafting view in Revit at least as good as CAD then you don't know Revit.  But beyond that, by doing model views with detail elements everything works in your model and what is most important

IT WORKS IN THE FIELD!

Once you really learn Revit, you will discover that it is even faster than CAD.  Your comments about missing notes are also way off base - again because you just don't know the process.

Have an open mind and give it time .... or don't.  We really don't mind the latter ... those people are no longer here.

"You mentioned modeling so hence I said detailing from Modeling"

Actually I did not mention modeling; I have been talking about detailing the entire time.

"Details are derived from the model. We use detail components to spruce up the model sections/details"

"We have standard details that we use on every project"

So which is it?  You are contradicting your own statement.

"Your short sightedness and temper after getting critisisim and suggestions on the CORRECT way to do things is disappointing and I feel bad for your drafters"

I am not upset at all, and the firing was a bit tongue in cheek.

"Hmm you must know everything then"

I can easily say the same about you and your "CORRECT" way of doing things.

Go ahead and have the last word, I know you want to.  I am done with you both.
