I'm trying to render the exterior of a building in Revit 2011 and am having two problems. My materials are very washed out compared to the previews in the materials dialog box. I can't seem to find a setting to make the sun less bright and changing the exposure level after its rendered looks awful and seems useless to me. I've attached a couple images. Secondly, I added some lighting to the lobby and maxed out the lighting's wattage. When I try to render a daytime image its as if there is no lights on at all. You can barely make out that the fixture is active. Is it just because the sun is so bright compared to the lighting inside? Thanks for any help.

I've had that issue myself. My workaround was to change the time of day to around sunset. You may have to play with it a bit to get it right, but it will bring the brightness down.
