Hi all,

I created a screen door family. I used a door template to start.  Now it looks for a wall to host it.  However, I'm using my screen doors as panels in a three-season porch.  So there's not really a wall to host it because I'm using closely spaced posts to maximize unobstructed views. Is there an easy way to change the family so it doesn't look for a wall?

Sorry but there is no way to change hosted to non-hosted.

BUT  This is so easy your gonna shoot yourself.... Why aren't you using a wall anyawy?  This is where you really have to think Revit's way.  What you are creating is a wall and you are using a door.  Yes, most of the wall is opened up, but it is still a wall.  Your screened in areas should be "windows" and what is below your windows and above them, the door and your windows is your framing .... the wall.  So now you just have to create those screens... I mean windows.

Have fun

Thank you WWHub. You make an excellent point.  Sometimes you gotta learn things the hard way.  For others who may have traveled this errant path...

I did find that in Revit 2011, you can copy your geometry/parameters from a one hosted component to a new differently hosted family type.  Some parameters did not stick, but were relatively simply to fix in the new family.

However, as WWHub suggest... I'm discarding my new creation (in this case I had made it floor hosted) and conforming to Revit terms...
