Hello all,

I'm a mechanical engineer looking to further my career by moving to a larger company.  I currently use AutoCAD, but the companies I'm looking at all use Revit MEP.  I've downloaded the free trial to try and get a feel of the software, but the first step involves importing an arch file which doesn't come with the software.  I've looked online and while I've found similar requests, the responses all seem to say that the best way to learn Revit Architect is to build something yourself.  I don't want to learn Revit Architect though...I just want to give it an HVAC system.

If someone could point me to a file or send me something simple (4 walls, drop ceiling and maybe a small bathroom) so I have something to play around with, it would be greatly appreciated.

 Thanks.

All I can say is our consultant MEP firm, prefaced us (Archi firm), on Revit, and If you do not know the functions of a building in Revit while you add your MEP components to the Archi file, It will be really hard to learn MEP revit for yourself. They told us that they had to learn Revit Architetural first before getting into Revit MEP, well alot had to do with it just coming out in 2010. Learn all aspects of the program on both side, it will make you a better Revit head. LOL!

Sorry Baldwin,

I agree with JWebber, I use all three, that is ARCH, STRUCT, MEP. You don't have to learn all the special techniques. Of building tricky walls and multi level floors and windows but you can build a simple building in a few hours at most. You will learn alot and it will really help you to understand how the program works for your future MEP modeling.

Good Luck and Happy modeling.

P.S. you will become very familiar with workplanes.
